Vision of Hope Ministries, Inc. (VOHM) is the mission support organization in the United States for evangelical Free Church planting in northern Haiti. Our purpose is to provide administrative, spiritual, and financial support for our field missionaries, Henoc and Guerline Lucien, and local Haitian Christians working alongside them in the city of Cap Haitien, Haiti and surrounding areas. VOHM currently supports three Evangelical Free churches located in Cap Haitien, Berard, and Grande Riviere du Nord. College Susan Schuenke, a pre-K through grade 13 Christian day school located in Cap Haitien, is also supported by VOHM.
Located in the West Indies, Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic. About the size of the state of Maryland, Haiti is home to nearly 7.3 million people. Following the exploration of Columbus in 1492, Haiti fell victim to Spanish rule and, subsequently, rule of the French. Remarkably, Haiti became the world's first independent black nation in 1804 when the nation's slave population defeated Napoleon's army. The political instability in the years that have followed combined with the natural disasters endemic in this region has left Haiti the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. Life expectancy is around 50 years of age and nearly half the population is illiterate. Food insecurity and sub-standard living conditions contribute to the daily struggle of life for the inhabitants of this island nation.
Vision of Hope Ministries is focused on bringing hope and help to these people through a holistic ministry. We share the hope of faith in Jesus Christ by addressing the need for education, disaster relief, micro-enterprise opportunities, and church planting. Over 90% of the funds provided by our supporters go directly to support these projects. The dramatic and lasting impact this effort makes in the lives of the people of northern Haiti is a testimony to the deep love God has for His children. We are excited to be a part of what God is doing in the lives of the people of Haiti and we invite you to join with us in this endeavor!
