The Evangelical Free Church of Cap Haitien

The EFC of
Cap-Haitien is a result of the outpouring of God's grace. In May 1994,
six people met together to discuss the vision that God put in Henoc Lucien's
heart during his time of studies in the United States. Henoc grew up in
the Baptist Church in Cap-Haitien. As a young person, he always had a
thirst for something relevant. Many of his friends always talked, even as
teenagers, about the void in their lives. When Henoc returned to Haiti
after college, he wanted to see that the physical, emotional, spiritual, and
educational needs of people of Haiti were met.
Those six met on a Saturday discussing their vision for ministry, what each
believed, and then sharing a time of worship and prayer. Day by day, many
people started coming to join them in
the study. Most of them were unsaved. One by one, usually after 3
or 4 meetings, they accept the Lord as Savior. Within 3 months, the Bible
study grew to more than 100 people meeting in a living room. The group
decided to rent a school where they continued to meet for the next three to
four years. Within six months of moving to the school, the church grew to
about 250 people. The amazing thing about the EFC of Cap-Haitien is that
over 90% of our members have come through conversion growth. They are people
who have trusted Christ as a result of our sharing the Word of God with them.
God has been faithful to us in spite of the many trials we have faced. We
believe that Satan has greatly attacked the very existence of our congregation
through the personal trials that I had to face during the years 95-96.
However, with a stubborn faith and a gracious God, we have come through this
harsh time ready to give more praise to His name.
In 1999, during our Sunday morning service, our landlord informed us that this
particular Sunday was our last day in his building. It was not until the
following Saturday that the Lord provided a smaller place for us to meet.
This also was a test of our faith. In less than a year, because of
the fundraising efforts of the Evangelical Free Church women's ministry we were
able to purchase the property that is now our campus. We praise Him for
His provision.
We aim to proclaim the message of the Gospel around the city of Cap-Haitien and
to give every family the hope that can be found only in the Lord. We look
at the different families who have been transformed, the young people who have
found hope and we testify of His faithfulness. We look forward to what He
will be doing through us during the years ahead.
