Cholera Surfaces in Haiti
After
seeing so much in the news lately about a cholera outbreak in Haiti, I
contacted our Business Manager, Rebekah Lucien, to ask about the
situation. I am copying her reply here:
Outbreaks of
cholera are as close as St Raphael (1 hour away) Please keep us in your
prayers. Today the Dominican Republic closed their borders for traffic
in and around Haiti. Praise the Lord for the water team coming and
installing when they did! Rebekah Lucien
Remember the new well the team from Jacksonville installed this month?
We
are so grateful for God's very timely provision for the little village
of Berard. Until this well became operational, the villagers used water
from a well that was regularly contaminated by storm runoff. During a
heavy rain, water running like a river down a nearby road would pick up
garbage and human waste from the ditches and carry it over the top of
the old well, with much of the contaminated run off seeping inside. I
have personally watched women pull water up out of this well for cooking
and drinking while others washed their children as they sat by the side
of the well, with the dirty water sloshing back into the well. The new
well is designed so that run off and dirty water can never contaminate
the clean water inside. Please hold the nation of Haiti before the Lord in prayer.Karen Patterson Administrative Coordinator
