First of all, thank you! You
prayed for the hurricane situation and we watched in grateful amazement
as that storm changed direction and never made a direct hit on Haiti.
There was rain and brief flooding, but nothing devastating. Not lucky,
BLESSED! You prayed for Hannah Lucien's eye surgery. The Dr. said
that all went as planned and now it is a matter of waiting. Please
continue to pray for complete healing of Hannah's eye.
Violence in Cap Haitien! Our
business manager, Rebekah Lucien, told me today that school has been in
session for only five days in November. A hurricane, a few holidays,
and a lot of violence have kept classes from meeting. Haiti is planning
a presidential election later this month. Several days ago, one of the
candidates visited Cap Haitien and was met by burning tires,
demonstrations, and gun fire. Roads into the city were blocked making
it impossible for our buses to get the kids safely to school. For the
past few days, violence over the outbreak of cholera in Haiti has
sparked more violence. I just now received the following email from
Pastor Henoc:
Since yesterday, Monday, the city of Cap-Haitien has been shut
down. There are violent demonstrations aimed toward the UN soldiers.
People believe that the cholera outbreak has come from UN Soldiers who
dumped their waste into creeks and rivers. The cholera virus that
affects Haiti has been traced to a South Asian origin- mainly Nepal.
People are asking for the departure of the UN soldiers and have set
barricades all over the streets.
Barricades are set, rocks and bottles are being thrown,
gunshots are being heard all over the place. There has been a lot of
exchange of armed gunfire between the UN soldiers and the people in
Cap-Haitien.
Yesterday, we were going to school
and when we were half way there we had to turn back. Three of our
buses made it and have been unable to return home. Please pray that
people won't burn them as tempers flare around the city. They are
parked in front of the school.
Presently, we are unable to go to Cap-Haitien or anywhere. Two days in a row, we are forced to stay home .
Please pray for peace.
Henoc Lucien
