Dear Friends of VOHM:
Fall
is just around the corner for all of us and that means that many will
be changing gears. Students return to school, new fall programs begin
at church, maybe you're even making a job change.
At VOHM we
are gearing up for another year of school at College Susan Schuenke.
This year brings a special change for the school. We have an intern
from the U.S. who will be teaching English at the school, working with
the orphans from Gonaives, and assisting our VOHM U.S. office with the
scholarship program. Already, emails and ideas have been flying fast
between us and this intern isn't in Haiti yet! Can you tell we're
excited? Let us introduce you to:

Here is a recent email we received from her:
I
was so glad to hear from you! I am so excited to get to have this
opportunity to get to work with you and Vision of Hope this year, it's
going to be great!
I
am 23 years old. I am sure you know Steve Storkel (a pastor from
Mansfield, Ohio), he has taken groups to work with Henoc for 3 summers
now. I am the middle of his three daughters. I graduated from Trinity
Christian College in the Spring of 2008 with a degree in Special and
Elementary Education. This past year I was an Intervention Specialist
at London High School here in Ohio and really learned a lot. I have
been to Haiti a total of four times. The first time I went with my
family when I was in 7th grade (seems like light years ago!) We taught
English for a week during Spring Break and really enjoyed getting to
know Henoc. These past three summers I have gone with my church youth
group as a leader. Throughout my last two years of college God really
laid upon my heart a passion for people and children who were less
fortunate and I really wanted to work in an orphanage in Africa. As
time passed and things developed, my dad got in contact with Henoc
again and went on a scout trip to Haiti where Henoc shared with him a
desire to begin an orphanage and a need of someone to help him out with
that. So for the past two years I have been praying and really seeking
the Lord's guidance as to when and how this would all work out and this
seems to be like a good first step. I am thrilled to be able to be
doing many different things in Haiti this year. I really enjoy
teaching; working with the orphans is going to be treat for me and just
recently I have seen the great need for sponsors for children to be
provided for and to go to school and am excited that I will be able to
have a part in helping these wonderful kids get sponsors!
Some prayer requests that I have now are: Getting
prepared to go (Physically, Mentally & Spiritually) I'm not sure I
could ever be completely prepared for what Haiti has but the more
prepared I am the better! Adjusting to the culture - each time I
have gone it's been with family or a large group so being by myself is
going to be a huge adjustment for me. Safety - I am going to stick out like a sore thumb and I need to be wise in my decision-making.
Please
keep Brittany in your prayers. We are thrilled to have her with us for
this year. In the past, interns have made a tremendous impact on the
ministry in Haiti and we are sure this year will be another chapter in
that story.
